Super Lands: a revolution by NASA

Here's some news that all expected: NASA for the first time failed to see a rocky extrasolar planet, The super-Earth 55 Cancers and.

The planet, discovered in 2004, is located in the constellation of the Crab, a 41 light years away, and is part of a system of 5 planets orbiting the star 55 Cancri.

The peculiarity of this planet is passing very close to its sun (about 26 times closer than Mercury). Astronomers pointed the infrared telescope on the star 55 Cancer for about six hours, waiting for the transit of the planet. At the passage of the planet was a slight drop in energy, ie the radiation characteristic of 55 Cancers and.

Capture solar radiation of a planet is now common for gas giants. This time, but, talk about a rocky body, and much harder to find. "Isolate the heat emitted by 55 cancers and that of its star is like that of picking up a single candle between 10 thousand other ", has in fact commented Brice-Olivier Demory, postdoc at the Department Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences del Mit. Thanks to this study, Researchers have already managed to precisely calculate the average temperature of super-Earth, of over 2 thousand degrees.

Mars: still traces of water

Mars Express has returned images of a region on the Red Planet appears to have been carved by the flowing liquid. This adds further confirmation that in the past Mars had large volumes of water on its surface. The 21 June last year, Mars Express photographed a giant basin on the northern plains of the planet. Acidalia Planitia region is so vast that it can be seen from Earth by amateur astronomers.

The photos cover a part of the western edge of the region, where some of the numerous valleys show subtle signs of drainage. The presence of deep valleys, with tributaries in the form of small valleys show that the region is likely to have been formed by a process called that occurs when erosion along the base of a cliff worn soft layers of material.

The images also show defects in the Martian crust, which extends towards the region Fossae Ideo. Even here, the water may have played a vital role in exposing underground reserves, possibly forming lakes in craters near.

Apparent sediment covering the floors of some craters old once again indicate the presence of surface water.

In some cases, valleys begin at the edge of the craters, suggesting that the water has been released from the surrounding ground.

Some more recent craters are seen in the central areas of the image. Their relatively young age is demonstrated by the lack of erosion and by the fact that lie above old formations.

The United fly into space

Il satellite Y1A già in orbita per gli Eau: ad aprile 2012 sarà lanciato il gemello Y1BY1B, second satellite in the space program in the UAE (Water) is ready to launch through the Proton carrier rocket from the Baikonur Cosmodrome (Kazakhstan), the next 24 April.
Consisting of two satellites and a ground segment, Yahsat the project is a complete telecommunications satellite built by Astrium and Thales Alenia Space (It) per l’Al Yah Satellite Communications Company (Yahsat), UAE satellite telecom operator, pioneer in the Middle East region, dell’Africa, Asia and South-west Europe. The system Yahsat will offer innovative business solutions, tra cui broadcasting HDTV, trunking internet via satellite, data and Internet services for businesses, public and private users, and secure communications.

Astrium is responsible for final integration of the two satellites and the launch. Tas has provided the payload and is responsible for the space segment, including the launch of satellites. Astrium Services, with its partner Thales Alenia Space, is responsible for the ground segment, which includes a network of terminals of the Earth, and for the management of a system that allows remote control of all hardware.
Astrium Services, in collaboration with Thales Communications and Security, is also involved in the operation of this system, provides maintenance of the ground segment and the training of operators in the UAE over a period of five years.

Saturn: yet spectacular new photos?

Saturn's moon Enceladus is under the rings of the gas giant, Titan in the background while you hide in this new image taken by Cassini. These two are the most enigmatic moons of the ringed planet: There are jets of Enceladus ice and water vapor from the south pole, and lakes of liquid hydrocarbons flowing over the thick atmosphere of Titan.

Saturn’s rings, Titan and Enceladus

The satellites of Saturn are photographed just above the ring plane of the planet, a million miles from Enceladus. The image scale is six kilometers per pixel on Enceladus.

Mars: here is the place that could harbor life

Pit-chains in TharsisThe latest images released by ESA's Mars Express reveals a series of canyons on the flanks of one of the largest volcanoes in the Solar System. Depending on their origin, may be some places where microbial life can be developed on the Red Planet.

This region has a series of massive volcanoes, including the three collectively known as Tharsis Montes. With their lies north Alba Mons, also known as Alba Patera, one of the largest volcanoes in the Solar System by area and volume.

These canyons may have a volcanic origin. The lava flows on the surface and become solid, while a stream of molten lava flowing under.

The Earth Hour: a fragile spacecraft in the dark space

Our Earth is a very fragile ‘spaceship ', but we tend to forget this in our daily life. The photos taken from space ESA astronaut Andre Kuipers to 400 miles out in space, to remind us how beautiful and vulnerable our planet. Last Saturday, during the ‘Earth Hour’, people all over the world has no essential off the lights to raise awareness of the need to act on climate change. Earth Hour was sustained by André, who is an ambassador for the World Wide Fund for Nature.

Kamchatka PeninsulaBut, When it came time to turn off the lights at 20:30, Andre was too busy working. Although not able to directly observe the event, Andre has posted a Twitter message from space "I hope # EarthHour was a success. And that has helped to highlight the lack of resources and the vulnerability of our planet. "

ESA has released new images taken by André earlier in the weekend.
