At the start flight tests of the Rolls-Royce Trent XWB

The new engine Airbus A350 XWB - the Rolls-Royce Trent XWB – has successfully made the first flight aboard the Airbus A380 . The plane took off from Toulouse and has made a flight of more than five hours during which the engine has covered a wide range of power settings at altitudes up to < 13.000 m and speeds up to Mach 0,9. The engine has not only worked perfectly , but has also demonstrated its efficiency and low noise level .

Il motore Trent XWB, specially equipped with sensors for measuring hundreds of parameters , was mounted on the A380 instead of one engine Trent 900.

This testing program provides for the accumulation of about 175 flight hours – about three times more air time than in previous programs .

The overall objective of these flight-test is the early and systematic validation of all aspects of engine performance and also the associated systems . In turn , this will contribute significantly to the development of the A350 XWB long before the entry into service . The first results of this campaign of flight tests are expected this summer .
