EasyJet will equip against the volcanic cloud

image easyJet unveils a revolutionary technology that will minimize future inconvenience caused by volcanic activity.

easyJet will be the first company in the world to experience a new technology called AVOID – Airborne Volcanic Object Identifier and Detector (identification and detection of volcanic matter in the air). The system, essentially a weather radar that detects the ashes, was created by Dr.. Fred Prata del Norwegian Institute for Air Research (NILE). AVOID is a system that is based on the placement of an infrared plane, images can provide both pilots and flight control center at the company.

The pictures will give drivers the opportunity to identify an ash cloud within 100 km e ad heights between 1.500 and the 15.000 meters. This will allow you to change the route of the plane to avoid any ash cloud. The concept is very similar to the existing weather radar on airliners.

On the ground, information from the plane thanks to AVOID would be used to build an accurate picture of the cloud of volcanic ash using data collected in real time. This would leave open large areas of airspace that would otherwise be closed during a volcanic eruption, benefit the passengers and minimizing the inconvenience.
