Today at 10:14:08 CET has been launched the Space Shuttle Endeavour Direct International Space Station carrying two sophisticated European modules: Node-3 (Tranquility) and Dome. The installation of these two modules will mark the completion of the part of ISS not of relevance Russian, with more than one third of the elements of the ISS designed and built in Europe.
Node-3 is part of the joint launch with NASA's Columbus laboratory, through which the ESA provides two of interconnection modules for the ISS, Node-2 and Node-3, in addition to equipment and laboratory services to advanced technology, in exchange for the launch to the ISS by NASA of the European Columbus laboratory, occurred in February 2008.

Node-3 was developed by Thales Alenia Space Italy on the basis of his experience with ASI (Italian Space Agency) in the design and construction of Node-2 and the MPLM, or the Multifunctional Logistics Modules, used to transport cargo to the ISS. The Node-2 and Node-3 are produced by a consortium of European companies led by Thales Alenia Space Italy as main contractor.
The Dome is instead the subject of a separate agreement which provides for the launch and return of five ESA payloads by NASA, and has also been built by European companies, under the guidance of Thales Alenia Space Italy as prime contractor.
